The relationship between materials, light and texture defines this project, where every surface is designed to enhance the perception of space. Among the chosen solutions is Ideal Work’s Lixio®+, which helps shape formal continuity and essentiality throughout the interiors.

Self-Portrait has opened its second store in London, located in the Chelsea neighbourhood at the corner of King’s Road and Duke of York Square. The project was born from the collaboration between Han Chong, founder and creative director of the brand, and New York-based architect Andreas Kostopoulos. Drawing from the idea of the self-portrait as a central theme, the concept explores reflection and self-perception through a dialogue of natural materials and mirrored surfaces, with a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship—both key elements in the brand’s identity.
The 200 m² space unfolds over two levels, with interiors flowing seamlessly from one to another. Every architectural element has been carefully orchestrated and stripped of any superfluous detail that might interfere with the perception of space. The walls are clad in pigmented clay from Cornwall, worked to create a visually tactile texture, while stainless steel and chrome-plated reflective surfaces amplify the sense of space, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior.

Much of the flooring and the staircase are finished with Lixio®+ decorative concrete surfaces by Ideal Work, offered in a refined blend of white, grey and mint green. This colour combination harmonises with the overall interior palette, contributing to a balance between material substance and luminous reflection. Made from a mix of cement and marble aggregate (5 to 12 mm), Lixio®+ reinterprets traditional terrazzo compositions through a modern aesthetic lens—eschewing the rigidity of industrial production while preserving the irregularities typical of handcrafted work.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, Lixio®+ stands out for its durability under heavy foot traffic, ease of cleaning and maintenance, relatively quick installation, and its ability to be applied both on new substrates (such as concrete screeds and cementitious bases) and on existing floors, including ceramic or natural stone. These features make it ideal for high-end commercial spaces where visual identity must be paired with long-term performance.
Every material, including Lixio®+, was chosen for its role in shaping spatial perception. Self-Portrait’s London store translates the brand’s visual language into a retail experience suspended between art and architecture—where minimalism does not mean subtraction, but refinement.
